Request?

Online marketing started back in the late 1990's with email marketing. What separated the spam from the credible efforts was the notion that there is huge value in obtaining someone's permission to send them information.

It is generally accepted now that permission marketing was invented at Yoyodyne, by visionary Seth Godin and all the resident yoyos. Request Marketing founder Laurie Kalmanson was present at the creation, and she is building her company on two insights from her Yoyodyne experience and her work in and around that space ever since:

1. If you have a clear, compelling idea that you can explain in a minute, don't stop there -- take the next step.

2. This is the next step in online marketing: If having someone's permission to send them things is valuable, then having them request information is worth even more.

And there you have it.
