Rants
This is where the rants go -- the documents that, ahem, have a definite point of view. They are here because rants, by definition, are intended for an audience.
So.
Here's what's up so far:
Information Architecture
IA White Paper -- Keeping Igloos Off the Beaches
Igloos are beautiful examples of form following function, and they brilliantly marshal available resources to create warm, dry, comfortable dwellings that use appropriate, environmentally friendly, low-impact technology -- in Alaska. But an igloo on the beach is nobody's idea of home sweet home. Information architects keep the igloos off the beaches, by working on project teams to build the most appropriate site for a given task, balancing business goals against the needs and desires of users.
Of course, an igloo on a beach could be an interesting piece of conceptual art, and if that's a project's business goal, we're here to support it.
Driving Traffic
Test and Roll -- There are two approaches to launching a website:
1. The approach that bets everything on a single execution of a page against a goal
2. The approach that uses the unique, realtime characteristics of the Internet to deploy multiple solutions simultaneously against a goal, and learn from the resulting data
This memo presents a plan for executing multiple iterations of the unregistered home page as a learning opportunity, using the second approach.
